As the deadline for the Education for All (EFA) and Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) is fast approaching, focus is shifting towards its successor, the so-called post-2015 development agenda. The global debate on what such an agenda should include and prioritise is fully underway, and Education International is playing an active role in these discussions. EI calls for a renewed commitment to universal free quality education, and for this to be at the centre of a new global development framework.
This section provides an overview of the on-going debate and EI’s work in this area. In particular, it addresses contested issues, such as the role of the state versus other education stakeholders, and a broad notion of quality versus narrow learning outcomes.
